“These findings suggest that we will need to reconceptualise sexual differences and consider the context in which common assumptions about men and women, the old and sexual minority group members have come to be accepted as truths. Even if these assumptions are accurate for low to “normal” sexual functioning, they may be irrelevant in understanding optimal sexuality. Our understanding of sex itself is limited by the degree to which we have focused on the dysfunctional end of the continuum.…Extraordinary sexual relations seem to transcend the level of acts and techniques and indeed, sexual functioning.
